There are two main stand-out factors that influence how an employer determines the suitability of an employee; first is the importance of certain skills to the job, and number two will be the level of satisfaction that employers have in the graduates they choose to hire. A strong point can be made to suggest that employers and employees have very different expectations when starting a job.
Today, the job market is even more competitive with the rise in expectations and the scarcity of well-skilled workers is a steadily growing global trend. By 2025, there will be a shortage of approximately 40 million highly-skilled workers and 45 million medium-skilled workers.
This gap will have severe impact on economic output and GDP growth and will eventually negatively affect the entire generation as productive members of society, leading to dismal political and social consequences.
The only way to tackle this is to implement apprenticeship systems with on-the-job training, thus creating a more skilled workforce, more and better employment opportunities and high-performing companies. With technology evolving every day, upskilling has become a mandate to stay relevant in any industry and our traditional education system will not be able to fulfill the high demands of the capitalist work culture.
